| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Jan 15, 2026 | New non-peak fulfillment rate card and inbound placement fees take effect |
| Apr 17, 2026 | 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge starts on all US FBA fulfillment fees |
| Oct 15, 2026 – Jan 14, 2027 | Holiday peak: fulfillment fees move to higher peak bands; the surcharge applies on top |
The surcharge is fulfillment fee × 3.5%. It applies to the fulfillment fee only — referral fees, storage and advertising are not surcharged. Because dimensional weight can push a product into a higher fulfillment band, it also raises the surcharge on that unit.
| Scenario | Fulfillment fee | Surcharge (3.5%) | % of $30 price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.75 lb large standard (10 oz product, tight box) | $4.20 | $0.15 | 0.5% |
| 3 lb large standard (same product, 12×8×4 box) | $6.67 | $0.23 | 0.8% |
| Bulky item | $12.00 | $0.42 | 1.4% |
The bulky example ($0.42) shows the compounding effect: bigger items pay more fulfillment, so the surcharge is a larger share of price.
On a typical $30 product the surcharge is $0.15–$0.25 per unit, under 1% of revenue — it will not break a margin by itself. What it does is compound quietly: it stacks on top of the January 2026 fee changes, it grows again inside the higher peak bands from Oct 15, and if your calculator omits it, every estimate is overstated by that amount. Small per unit, but on 5,000 units it is $750–$1,250 of phantom margin.
Three things make this surcharge easy to miss: it has no separate invoice line most sellers notice, it is a percentage of another fee rather than a fixed amount, and free calculators rarely model it. Before you trust any profit estimate, run this check:
The calculator's fuel & logistics surcharge toggle is on by default and uses the official 3.5%. Open the $30 example or enter your own product — every fee is shown in the itemized breakdown.

Amazon applies a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to FBA fulfillment fees from April 17, 2026. It is calculated on the fulfillment fee only (not the selling price) — a $4.20 fulfillment fee adds $0.15 per unit, a $6.67 fee adds $0.23.
The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge took effect April 17, 2026. It applies to all US FBA fulfillment fees billed on or after that date, alongside the non-peak rate card that began January 15, 2026.
Multiply your fulfillment fee by 3.5%. Example: 0.75 lb large-standard fee of $4.20 × 0.035 = $0.147, billed as $0.15. Dimensional weight raises the fulfillment fee, which in turn raises the surcharge.
Yes. During the Oct 15 2026 – Jan 14 2027 peak period fulfillment fees switch to higher peak bands, and the 3.5% surcharge applies on top of those higher fees — so peak-season per-unit surcharge is higher than off-peak.
The surcharge is typically 0.5–0.8% of the selling price — a $0.15–$0.25 per unit line item. It rarely breaks a margin by itself, but ignoring it inflates every estimate, and it compounds with the 2026 fulfillment fee increases.
Most free calculators omit it, which is why estimates come in a few points high. The FBA Calcs calculator includes a 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge toggle that defaults on and explains the fulfillment-fee base.
