How break-even is calculated

Break-even price is the sale price at which net profit reaches zero under your current cost and fee inputs. The calculator re-derives every line item — referral tier, fulfillment band, surcharge, storage and returns — at candidate prices until the crossing point is found, so tier boundaries (like beauty flipping from 8% to 15% at $10) are fully accounted for. The result is rounded to the cent.

Calculation methodology
  • Referral fee = price × category rate, tiered for beauty (8% ≤ $10, else 15%), clothing (5% ≤ $15, 10% $15.01–20, 17% above $20) and consumer electronics (8%); minimum $0.30, +$1.80 for media.
  • Fulfillment fee = official 2026 band rate for the billable weight (greater of actual vs dimensional weight ÷ divisor); odd ounces round up to the next even tier; fuel & logistics surcharge = 3.5% of the fulfillment fee (non-peak).
  • Dimensional weight = L × W × H ÷ 139 (US inches/lb); billable weight uses dimensional when it exceeds actual weight.
  • Storage = monthly rate per ft³ (standard $0.78, peak $2.40) × (L×W×H ÷ 1728) × storage days ÷ 30, plus inbound placement fee split by option.
  • Returns = return rate × (referral + fulfillment + surcharge + return fee + landed cost), amortized per unit.
  • Break-even price = binary search over candidate prices (precision $0.01) until net profit ≈ 0, re-deriving every tier boundary at each candidate.

How this FBA profit calculator works

FBA Net Profit is the amount a seller keeps per unit after every Amazon fee and cost bucket is subtracted from the listing price — referral fee, fulfillment fee, fuel & logistics surcharge, advertising, inbound freight, storage, returns and placement. This free Amazon FBA profit calculator estimates that real net profit and profit margin for a product sold through Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). It is built for sellers who want to know — before ordering inventory — what a unit actually earns after Amazon referral fees, FBA fulfillment fees, the fuel and logistics surcharge, advertising and landed cost.

The tool applies Amazon's official 2026 US non-peak fee schedule automatically for Amazon.com, including the small-standard tiers and 12 large-standard shipping-weight bands, the 3–20 lb per-4-oz formula and bulky/oversize tiers. For the UK, Germany, France, Canada, Japan and other marketplaces it switches to manual fee entry until official non-US rate cards ship in Phase 2.

What it calculates

Net profit per unit = selling price − referral fee − FBA fulfillment fee − fuel & logistics surcharge − advertising cost − other fees − item/landed cost. The result screen also shows your profit margin, a break-even price (the minimum price at which the unit stops losing money) and a fee breakdown bar chart. As a rule of thumb, healthy US seller margins land between 20% and 30% after all fees and advertising — use this Amazon FBA profit margin calculator to check yours against that range.

How to use it

  1. Select your target marketplace — currency and units switch automatically (imperial for US, metric for other sites).
  2. Enter selling price, landed cost and dimensions/weight. Dimensional weight uses Amazon's US divisor of 139 (in/lb) and 5,000 (cm/kg) internationally.
  3. Choose the category to apply the correct tiered referral fee (e.g. beauty 8% under $10 then 15%, consumer electronics 8%).
  4. Set advertising cost, other fees, and toggle the 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge effective April 17, 2026. Click Calculate Profit.

Break Even Price Calculation

Your FBA break-even price is the minimum selling price at which net profit reaches zero after referral, fulfillment, fuel surcharge, advertising, inbound shipping, storage, returns and item cost. This free break even price calculator solves it automatically by binary search — price below it and every sale loses money, so price at least 20–30% above it.

Inbound shipping, storage, returns & placement

Open the Advanced costs section to model the fees most free calculators skip: per-unit inbound freight (total shipment cost ÷ units), category-average return rates (auto-filled, apparel runs 20–30%), monthly storage from your dimensions at the official 2026 rates, and US inbound placement fees. Together these close the gap between a simple fee calculator and a real FBA profit calculator with itemized breakdown.

Fee data & methodology

US fulfillment rates come from Amazon's official 2026 non-peak schedule (Jan 15 – Oct 14, 2026); the fuel & logistics surcharge is added separately when enabled. Peak holiday fees (Oct 15, 2026 – Jan 14, 2027) are listed in the fee editor but not auto-applied. Referral rates follow the Selling on Amazon fee schedule. All estimates should be confirmed against your Seller Central fee preview before pricing.

5 common FBA profit calculation mistakes

  1. Ignoring inbound freight. A $300 shipment across 200 units adds $1.50 to every unit's cost. Free calculators that skip freight inflate margins by several points.
  2. Using the wrong dimensional-weight divisor. US uses 139 (in/lb); international uses 5,000 (cm/kg). FBA charges the greater of actual and dimensional weight — a light but large box can jump a fee tier.
  3. Applying a single referral rate. Categories are tiered — beauty is 8% at or below $10 and 15% above. Using one flat rate misprices margins on both sides of the threshold.
  4. Ignoring returns. Apparel returns run 20–30%; even a 5–10% rate quietly erodes 1–3 margin points after fulfillment and processing fees.
  5. Underestimating storage. Slow movers pay $0.78/ft³ off-peak but $2.40/ft³ during Oct–Dec. A product stored 90+ days pays 3× the headline rate.

Worked example: FBA profit for a beauty product

Walk through a real calculation — a $24.99 beauty product sized 6 × 4 × 2 in at 10 oz (large standard-size):

  1. Referral fee = $24.99 × 15% = $3.75 (beauty is tiered: 8% at or below $10, 15% above).
  2. FBA fulfillment fee = $4.20 (2026 large standard, 10 oz band, $10–50 price tier), plus 3.5% fuel surcharge = $0.15.
  3. Advertising at 10% of price = $2.50.
  4. Hidden costs: inbound freight $300 across 200 units = $1.50/unit; 8% category return rate ≈ $1.09; 60-day storage ≈ $0.04; minimal-split placement ≈ $0.30.
  5. Net profit = $24.99 − $5.50 cost − $13.53 total fees = $5.96/unit (23.9% margin), break-even price $16.91.

FBA profit calculator FAQ

Is this FBA profit calculator free to use?

Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up, no API key and no Amazon account access. All fee logic runs locally in your browser — we do not transmit or store the numbers you enter.

How is FBA profit calculated?

Net profit per unit = selling price − Amazon referral fee − FBA fulfillment fee − fuel surcharge − advertising − other fees − item cost. The calculator applies Amazon's 2026 US non-peak rate card automatically for US sales and lets you enter fees manually for other marketplaces.

What is dimensional weight and how does it affect the fee?

Dimensional weight = length × width × height ÷ divisor. The US uses 139 with inches and pounds; international marketplaces use 5,000 with centimeters and kilograms. FBA charges on the greater of actual weight and dimensional weight.

How do Amazon referral fees work?

Referral fees are a percentage of the sale price that varies by category: 8% for consumer electronics, 12% for automotive, 15% for most categories and up to 45% for Amazon device accessories. Some categories are tiered — beauty is 8% at or below $10 and 15% above $10.

Why do UK, German and other non-US marketplaces use manual entry?

Official rate cards for non-US marketplaces are planned for Phase 2. Until then, enter your marketplace's fulfillment fee and referral rate manually — the referral field defaults to 15% and both are adjustable per category.

Which 2026 US FBA fees are built in?

The built-in card covers Amazon's official 2026 non-peak schedule (Jan 15 – Oct 14, 2026): small-standard tiers and 12 large-standard bands, the 3–20 lb formula, bulky/oversize tiers and the 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge effective Apr 17, 2026. Peak holiday fees are shown in the editor, not auto-applied.

Does this calculator cover FBM, MCF or other fulfillment methods?

It estimates FBA fees, and the Compare FBA vs FBM section lets you enter your own per-unit shipping & handling cost to see which method nets more at your price point. Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) rates are not covered.

Does this tool track prices or use my Amazon data?

No. By design it has no price tracking, no price alerts and no access to your Amazon account. Inputs stay in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

What is a good FBA profit margin?

Most successful Amazon sellers target 20–30% net margin per unit after all fees, advertising and hidden costs. Under 10% leaves no room for returns, storage spikes or price wars; above 40% is rare except in premium niches. Use the margin figure in this calculator as your gate — below 15% usually means the product needs a lower cost or a higher price.

Why are my FBA fees so high, and how can I reduce them?

High fees usually come from five places: an oversized box (dimensional weight), a high referral category, peak-season storage, fuel surcharges and returns. Reduce fees by right-sizing packaging to the next lower tier, choosing categories with lower referral rates, and cutting average days in FBA below 60.

What is the FBA break-even price?

Break-even price is the minimum selling price at which net profit equals zero after referral, fulfillment, advertising, freight, returns and storage. This calculator solves it by binary search — price below it and you lose money per unit; keep at least a 20–30% margin above it.

How do returns and storage costs affect FBA profit?

Returns cost you the referral and fulfillment fees plus a processing fee on every returned unit, and apparel categories run 20–30% return rates. Storage costs $0.78–$2.40 per cubic foot per month depending on season, so slow movers quietly lose margin. The Advanced costs section models both — leave return rate empty to auto-fill the category average.

Does this calculator work for beauty, clothing and oversized items?

Yes. All 30 referral categories are built in (beauty, clothing, electronics, toys and more), including tiered beauty rates. Standard-size items use the 2026 banded fee schedule; bulky/oversize items use the dimensional formula. Clothing carries an apparel-specific note in the fulfillment schedule.
